Thomas Lemke and Torsten Heinemann will participate at the 10th Conference of the European Sociological Association ("Social Relations in turbulent times"). The paper is titled "Geneticization of the family? The use of DNA-testing in the context of immigration".

Martin Weiss will give a lecture on the use of DNA testing for immigration purposes and its philosophical implications. The lecture is part of event "Weimar denkt II - Mit den Fellows des Kollegs Friedrich Nietzsche im Getümmel der Stadt" which will take place on 28 - 29 August 2011.

Project Workshop II (Helsinki) - June 2011
The second project workshop will be held in Helsinki on 09 - 10 June 2011. The aim of the workshop is to present preliminary results from the first field work phase and align the next steps for further interviews. We will also have the chance to visit a laboratory for DNA kinship testing and discuss with geneticists working in this field.
Start of first field work phase - March 2011
The three empirical projects in Austria, Finland, and Germany started the field work phase in March 2011. In the course of the next month we will conduct expert interviews with representatives of immigration authorities, lawyers, members of NGOs and geneticist working at laboratories.

Torsten Heinemann will present the Immigene-Project at the colloquium of the Max-Planck-Institute for Social Anthropology in Halle.
Project Workshop I (Frankfurt)
The first project workshop will be held in Frankfurt on 13 - 14 January 2011. The aim of the workshop is to present preliminary results from the first research phase and align the next steps for research phase two. In this second phase we will conduct expert interviews with agencies, NGOs, lawyers and other actors in the field. We were also able to invite two renowned scholars, Amade M'charek and Susanne Schultz, to join us for the workshop. They will present their current work and ideas on DNA testing in immigration contexts and we will discuss our findings with them.
